Alfred Pennyworth, Packin’ Heat

10/04/2011

No, I’m not kidding – in the new CG series coming in 2013, Beware the Batman, Alfred Pennyworth will be toting firearms as he assists a young Batman to fight crime. Just announced during the Warner Bros. keynote speech, the new series will be replacing Batman: the Brave and the Bold as the next Dark Knight animated series. In addition to an armed Alfred, second-tier villains – rather than standard Joker/Penguin/Riddler – will be the major foes of the series and Katana with be the “sidekick” rather than our traditional Boy Wonder.

Also of note from the keynote speech is the introduction of “DC Nation” an hour-long block on Cartoon Network starting in 2012 featuring the back-to-back DC animated series Young Justice and Green Lantern. What makes it different from the current block? In between the feature shows will be shorts, clips, and live segments expanding the DCU and featuring comedic bits, interviews, and the like. What excites me are the promised Doom Patrol action shorts and the Powerpuff-esque Super Best Friends Forever (SBFF) shorts featuring Supergirl, Batgirl, and Wonder Girl.

You can read the Newsarama article and watch the keynote speech here. I’m sure we’ll be getting more information the closer we get to spring (or maybe November when the Green Lantern series premieres).

It actually mentions it in the video clip – it’s pretty close to the end (about the last 10 min) if you don’t feel like watching the entire thing.
