7 Favorite Comic Book Couples

02/14/2012

7. The Joker & Harley Quinn

OK, not what you would consider a “classical” romance, but (on Harley’s end at least) the love is unconditional. Sure they are both homicidal maniacs, but who understand the mind of serial killer better than another serial killer?

6. Scott Pilgrim & Ramona Flowers

It must be true love if you’re willing to face a league of Evil Exes to be with the girl of your dreams.

5. Elongated Man & Sue Dibney

Their relationship never really hit me until I read the graphic novels like Formerly Known as the Justice League and I Can’t Believe It’s Not the Justice League. But sadly the relationship really took center stage in the pages of Identity Crisis when it showed how powerful that love was once Sue was gone.

4. Colossus & Shadowcat

He can turn his body into into impenetrable, organic steel so it would figure that the only girl who can reach his heart is one that can walk though solid matter. Kitty and Peter had to be one of my favorite X-Couples, at least until…

3. Rogue & Gambit

…Rogue and Gambit. A Cajun with a devilish smile and trouble past and an untouchable Southern belle who can’t remember her own. This troubled love affair was so sweet and delicious you could eat it with a spoon every month. This was my favorite Marvel romance for years until…

2. Hulkling & Wiccan

Hulkling and Wiccan. Finally, a realistic, gay comic couple that’s not drowning in flamboyant stereotypes. From issue one you could tell there was more between Teddy and Billy than being just teammates and the relationship has grown exponentially stronger as the series continues. This would have been my #1 couple if not for one from DC that hovers above it…

1. Clark Kent & Lois Lane

…Lois and Clark. Superman always had Lois’s heart in his back pocket (do tights have pockets?), but what made the romance even stronger was that he also had to woo her as mild-mannered Clark Kent competing with his own alter ego for her affections!
